No Longer Obese!

I lost another 2.5 pounds, which means I have now lost 110.5 pounds total! (In UK measurements, that's 7 stone 12.5 pounds.)

I hate the word "obese." I have been classified as "obese" for many, many years now. As of today, I am no longer obese! My BMI is below 30, and I am now classified as "overweight." I have lost over 40% of my starting weight.

Some of you have asked how much I weighed at the start. My high weight was 272.5 pounds, and I am now 162 pounds. I am still 27 pounds away from my goal weight of 135 pounds.

There was a time when I thought that I had too far to go and that the amount I needed to lose was just too great and insurmountable to ever manage. But look at me now! It's like running a marathon; I keep taking it one step at a time, one small goal at a time, and now I am almost at the finish line!

Slimming World is looking for consultants from here to go and work in the US and set up Slimming World groups over there. I keep wondering if Robert and I should look into it as a way to move back to the US.

  1. Woo hoo! I'm so happy for you, Rebecca! The Slimming World consultancy sounds really interesting - I think you should definitely look into it!!

  2. Gratz! Do you know that here in the US, they changed what BMI was classified as overweight in 1998? Used to be you could be up to 27 without being classed as overweight. Thought that was interesting.

    Am I Really That Fat?

  3. Congrats! I recently dropped below obese too. I was never so happy to be overweight.

I so agree with what you said about the marathon. When I started I said I want to weigh less. If I had picked a goal weight then it would have seemed impossible. I could have never said I want to lose 100 pounds.

But now I am at 88 pounds lost and getting closer. Maybe someday I can get as far as you.

Truely inspiring. Keep up the great work!

  4. Yay you! That is great news! And what a great way to look at it - a marathon, one small goal at a time. Just 27 pounds to go to meet your goal weight - that is incredible! Congrats!

  5. Congrats to you! That is fantastic! And I love the way you look at it as a marathon with one small goal at a time. You are almost there! :)

  6. WOuld they be interested in hiring people already in the US? Would it pay enough to be self supporting?

    Please let me know.

This is Pamela. I emailed you over the weekend about the free foods list.

  7. CONGRATS!!!
Im a little late to the party but am confident youre still dancing with glee.

    xo xo,

  8. You are an inspiration! I have 35% of my starting weight to lose, and whenever I need a lift, I read your blog. Thank you.

  9. Woo hoo! Ain't it great to be "overweight?" Only in this context, of course.

I'll look forward to your "No Longer Overweight" post to come!

  10. Congratulations! That is really awesome! I recently accomplished the same thing, thus I know how awesome you feel right now!

  11. OMG, that's wonderful!

Another 10 lbs and I will no longer be 'overweight'. I don't think my BMI has been in the 'normal' range since I hit puberty.

Congrats again and I would TOTALLY look into the Slimming World thingy here in the US.

  12. Congratulations on your fabulous loss and getting so close to your goal, as well as your improved strength! You and your family so deserve the best quality of life you can have, and obesity gets in the way of that. Keep at it!

  13. That is awesome! You are currently at my goal weight now (which is 162lb, I only have 7lb left). Great job on the additional weight loss though!

  14. Great job! I am looking at a 40lb loss so far but at least 100 to go. I am trying to get the "marathon" mentality. It's hard not to feel failure sometimes but better than I was! Just found your site recently and still need to find out what "Skinny World" is.

  15. So, have you looked into the consultant thing? I'm extremely curious!!

  16. Katherine - I am being sent a meeting place where "how to be a consultant" will be discussed. I have to become a consultant here before I can be sent to the US, but I want to see if it is right for me first.

Sorry about the word verification. I turned it off and started getting tons of SPAM, so I had to turn it back on again.
